Wall Mounts
Easily store cornices and board mounted treatments by making these wooden wall mounted racks.
Using 1" x 6" lumber, cut slots that angle down slightly. The slots are approximately 2 inches high and 4 inches deep and at intervals of 10 inches. All boards must be cut the same.
Attach a board to the back side and attach to the wall making certain that slots match from rack to rack.

Cord Spooling
When working with cording, shirring tapes and other items that come directly off of a roll, it is important that they roll straight off the roll to minimize twisting. Using roman shade cord (or any available heavy string), and a heavy dowel rod, mount a cording spool rack under the sewing machine table.
You'll save time in the long run and your projects will benefit too!

Electrical
Have an electrician drop electric plugs over work areas. The electrician will need to know what type of appliances you will be using to determine how many circuits are necessary. Plan ahead for the type of work you will be doing and the best place to position machines and tables to minimize steps.
Using hanging electric plugs reduces back pain and the frustration of bending over to locate wall mounted outlets. Any step that you can take to reduce your work load is a step worth taking.

Managing Paperwork
Keep your work table clear of papers such as price lists, message pads, writing utensils and the telephone. This handy podium mounted to the wall keeps everything together off of your work space and also allows you to stand up straight for better back posture instead of slouching over your table to write.
Notice the shelves underneath for stoage and the slanted writing surface that has a bottom edge to catch note pads and pencils.

Winding Bobbins
It is well worth the expense to purchase a seperate bobbin winder. Fill multiple bobbins at one time using this speedy tool.
Wind bobbins for all of the common colors that you sew with and store them on a magnetic bobbin rack. There is nothing worse than having to stop mid-stream to wind a bobbin.

Table Space
Build a table around your industrial machines to take the load off caused by heavy fabrics. The table shown is covered with vinyl. Vinyl causes the fabric to slide and is easy to keep clean.

Valance Stand
Here is an inexpensive way to make a stand for board mounted treatments. Using 2X4 lumber make a rectangle. Attach a strap to each side with staples. The straps can then be anchored to the work table with T pins.

Cart for Rolled Goods
Here is a neat little cart to keep up with Roman shade cord, as shown from all sides. The cart is made from plywood with a metal dowel through the center of the spool. A piece of wooden curtain rod forms a nice handle at the top.
